What is Local Crop?
It’s a new online marketplace for restaurants that brings farmers and food producers located within 150 mile radius of Cleveland, together in one place. Local Crop is a convenient ordering tool for restaurants, but has also created a new distribution system for these local suppliers that will allow them to more easily and efficiently bring their products to more restaurants.
Many of these suppliers currently hand deliver small amounts of product to restaurants directly, a time consuming system that in many cases results in fuel costs of up to 35% of the sell price of the product. Local Crop in partnership with Sysco Foodservice, the country’s largest and most efficient food distributor will help suppliers by utilizing existing trucking routes.
Our goal at Local Crop is to make local foods affordable and accessible to as many “forks” as possible while reducing the impact on the environment.
As a chef, it is easy to understand the benefits of cooking with local foods that do not travel long distances to get to your kitchen. They simply taste better and are more nutritious. Buying locally means that our dollars stay in the area, making it possible for local businesses to grow and thrive.
